HEALTH POLITICS: Beaming Up Kucinich

Tim Egan at the New York Times has a terrific piece on liberal UFO-seeing Dennis Kucinich's decision to vote for health reform, even though he'd rather have a single payer system. It's a great, enjoyable read, but here's the gist:

On Wednesday, he ended months of self-righteous defiance, deciding not to stand with every single Republican in Congress trying to block health care reform....

If Kucinich had gone ahead as promised with a “no” vote, it would not have an asterisk next to it. It would simply be another no, putting him in league with Michele Bachmann, John Boehner and other congressional defenders of the costliest, most inefficient and least accessible health care system in the Western world.

It is hard to write about Kucinich without noting his belief in UFOs. Egan, thankfully, did not resist that temptation. But while Kucinich may still believe in UFOs, perhaps he can at least help put an end to UIOs -- Uninsured in Ohio.
